Pastor Gary brought his blender to church this morning and he put us in it. That is, our religious backgrounds — Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, Pentecostals, Lutherans, etc.
Our scripture reading was 1 Corinthians 12, about the part that every one of us in Grace Church have various gifts, or ministries. I may be good at one thing, and the guy sitting on the aisle seat something else. Our church really doesn’t belong to any particular denomination, and that is not a slam against any true church body.
Pastor Gary asked how many of us had Baptist backgrounds? Several hands went up. He also asked about Pentecostals, Catholics, etc. More hands went up. We could tell we as a church body came from various backgrounds.
A banana I think was Lutherans, spinach was Baptists. There were other things too, such as strawberries, carrots and pineapples for other religious backgrounds. The Holy Spirit was water and ice. He flipped the switch and the mixer broke us down and mixed us all together and blended us into one awesome drink.
With different backgrounds, our individual gifts, or ministries, “are the work of one and the same Spirit.”
Pastor Gary and couple of the youth in the front rows drank the blended mix. My eye wandered down my page in the Bible to the end of verse 13: “…and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.”
