After 22 years of being retired and on Social Security for 17 years, I returned to the workforce — Full-time in a entry-level job at Wal-Mart.
I have tried to explain why I did that to retired people. They looked at me like I was completely out of my mind. I really couldn’t explain why I did it — to make a U-turn in my life to get back into the public domain, work with people much younger and with different lifestyles, waiting on and serving customers and being under the thumb of bosses more than half my age and being at their beckon call.
Legendary Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden said it best: “After you retire, there’s only one big event left, and I ain’t ready for that yet.” Think about it retired people; we think about DEATH. We can keep busy with hobbies, travelling and volunteering, but I discovered I wanted more than that.
I don’t want to die eating lunch at a Senior Center, but collapsing to the floor before a deli meat slicer serving another senior citizen.
